I would add that there is a difference between accessing code, accessing a binary (including libraries), and accessing an actually runable program. |

Sure. In some ways code is the easiest to access, as it can simply be served as plain text. Binaries and libraries need to be organized in repos, and runable programs need to have dependencies and/or OS requirements made linked or at least explicit. In particular, there is probably some need to make fully platform independent runable programs (e.g., run as web services or on a server) on the one extreme, and organized catalog of code on the other. These are different searches and different uses. |
